Renowned Islamic cleric and preacher, Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello, has passed away. According to a family source, he died on Friday morning after a brief illness. His burial is scheduled for the evening in Ibadan. The late cleric had previously served as the Missioner for the Ansar-u-Deen Islamic Society, Kano State branch. Born in 1940 into the family of Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello from Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi, Ibadan, Alhaji Bello began his early education at IDC Primary School, Elekuro, Ibadan, and continued his secondary education in the same area. He later pursued Islamic studies at Mahdul Arabiy, Elekuro, between 1963 and 1967, gaining comprehensive knowledge in Arabic and Islamic teachings. By the age of 10, Alhaji Bello had already shown a strong inclination towards Islamic propagation, delivering sermons in various parts of Ibadan. His dedication to promoting Islam saw him teaching in secondary schools across Oyo, Ogun, and Kano states. As the Missioner for the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, he gained prominence for his profound and fearless preaching style. Throughout his career, Alhaji Bello delivered lectures both within Nigeria and internationally, including in the UK, US, and neighboring African countries. His work earned him widespread respect and recognition. In April 2024, the Supreme Council for Islamic Preachers, Southwest Nigeria, led by Sheikh Taofeek Akewugbagold, honored Alhaji Bello with the prestigious title of Sulthonil Waa’izeen (King of Preachers) in Yorubaland. The title acknowledged his fearless, truth-driven sermons and his unwavering commitment to the Islamic faith. Alhaji Bello’s passing is a significant loss to the Islamic community in Nigeria and beyond. His legacy as a preacher, educator, and advocate for truth and justice will remain a lasting influence on the Muslim faithful.
