Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has emphasized that the upcoming 2023 presidential election in Nigeria is a task that requires physical and mental fitness, not for those dealing with health challenges. He also criticized the top presidential candidates for failing to adequately address the major issues facing the nation in their campaigns.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele expressed disappointment with the presidential hopefuls for making vague promises without clearly explaining how they plan to solve Nigeria’s pressing problems. He pointed out that the country is grappling with economic hardship, insecurity, and educational challenges, but none of the candidates have convincingly laid out strategies to tackle these issues.
Ayodele voiced concerns that if these issues are not adequately addressed during the campaign period, Nigerians may continue to face the same difficulties even after the elections. “Presidential candidates are only looking for votes, they have not addressed issues. They claim they can do it all, which isn’t possible,” he stated. “We are facing insecurity, economic challenges, and education problems, yet they haven’t explained how they will handle these matters. We may still end up with the same problems in the next dispensation.”
The cleric also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain steadfast and avoid any intimidation regarding the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which he believes is crucial for ensuring a credible election. Ayodele stressed that Nigerians need to elect a leader who can unite the country, and that BVAS is key to preventing election rigging.
“INEC must take this election more seriously than ever before. We cannot afford any rigging because we are in a critical situation and need to elect a leader who will unify the country. BVAS is the answer to ensuring a credible election,” Ayodele stated.
Additionally, Primate Ayodele predicted that a prominent figure among the newly elected governors, senators, or House of Representatives members may pass away, and advised individuals who are unhealthy to prioritize their well-being over participating in the elections.
“If you know you are unhealthy, go and take care of yourself. The election is not what you need right now,” he warned.
