President Bola Tinubu postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for Wednesday in a gesture of respect for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night. Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the decision, noting that a new date for the meeting will be announced soon.
The statement, titled “Lagbaja: President Tinubu Postpones Federal Executive Council Meeting,” highlighted Tinubu’s tribute to the late general, who served as Chief of Army Staff since June 19, 2023. Tinubu extended condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, honoring Lt. General Lagbaja’s legacy and significant contributions to national security.
Following the announcement, Vice President Kashim Shettima led council members in observing a minute’s silence at the Council Chamber. Shettima then encouraged the ministers to join in a condolence visit to President Tinubu’s official residence, stating, “Let’s do so as a family; this is the proper thing to do.” Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila coordinated the gathering.
In a further gesture of respect, Tinubu ordered that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide for the next seven days in honor of Lagbaja. This solemn tribute reflects the profound impact of the general’s service to Nigeria and his dedication to the Nigerian Armed Forces.
