A fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway claimed the life of a policeman following a multiple-vehicle crash near the Kara section of the highway. The incident occurred when a Volvo truck with the registration number FKJ 484 YA, loaded with goods and heading towards Arepo, reportedly suffered a brake failure, colliding with a moving Mercedes bus. In an attempt to control the truck, the driver inadvertently overturned onto a parked Toyota Hiace bus (BWR 371 XC).
Tragically, a policeman from the Mobile Police Division in Ikeja, riding his motorcycle to work, became trapped beneath the truck and died instantly.
The crash led to significant traffic disruption along the expressway. Responding swiftly to the emergency, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) received a distress call at approximately 6:44 a.m. and immediately deployed a response team from their Command Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, explained the response actions, stating, “The commodity was extricated using the agency’s heavy-duty equipment, the Super Metro, bagged, and taken to the Ojodu Police Station for further processing.â€
