The wife of former Assistant Inspector General Hakeem Odumosu, Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, has been saved by Nigeria Police Force operations.
This was confirmed in a statement released in Abuja on Thursday by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
According to Adejobi, Ogun State police officers engaged Odumosu’s kidnappers in a gunfight and defeated the culprits in the marshy Ikorodu area on Wednesday with the assistance of Force Headquarters technical intelligence platforms.
The police spokesperson further stated that Mrs. Odumosu has been reunited with her family and is currently having a medical checkup.
According to the statement, “Police officers affiliated with the Ogun State Command have successfully neutralized the kidnappers of Mrs. Odumosu, wife of Retired Assistant-Inspector General, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, and rescued her unharmed in a commendable display of teamwork and swift action.”
Four masked assailants kidnapped Mrs. Odumosu from her Lexus Jeep outside her home in Arepo, Ogun State, on January 16, 2025, at around 9:45 p.m. The Ogun State Police Command’s anti-kidnapping team responded quickly to the kidnapping, initiating a comprehensive investigation and a focused search for the abductors.
“The Ogun State police officers conducted a thorough surveillance of the creeks around Arepo with the assistance of the Force Headquarters technical intelligence platforms, obtaining vital information to locate the attackers. At approximately 06:45 AM on January 23, 2025, their efforts paid off with a raid. The police were directed by intelligence to a stream in the marshy region of Ikorodu, where the abductors were allegedly preparing their next assault.
The kidnappers opened fire on the operatives when they arrived. Two of the gunmen were killed in the subsequent altercation, and four more ran away, leaving their working guns behind.
According to Adejobi, the police officers found four Ak-47 rifles, three locally manufactured single barrel rifles, ammunition of different calibers, and N10 million that had been originally paid to the kidnappers.
“During the operation, the victim, Mrs. Odumosu, was rescued within the swampy creeks, unharmed,” he continued. She has subsequently been reunited with her family and is presently having a medical evaluation as a precaution. To further ensure that justice is done, the police also retrieved four Ak-47 guns, three locally manufactured single barrel rifles, ammunition of different calibers, and the N10,000,000 ransom that the kidnappers had sought.
According to Adejobi, Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo and police officers were lauded for the rescue effort by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
He declared that the Police Force is dedicated to protecting the public and fighting dangerous crimes like kidnapping.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his officers have received praise from Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for their valor in this successful operation.
