The Police Command in Taraba State has confirmed a robbery attack on the Wukari-Kente Road on Thursday but has not verified reports suggesting that the mother and sister of Governor Agbu Kefas were among the victims.

Social media reports on Thursday evening alleged that gunmen ambushed the Governor’s family, with claims that his sister, Atsi Kefas, sustained gunshot injuries and was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari before being flown to Abuja for further medical attention. The Chairman of Wukari Local Government, Dauda Samaila Agbu, was cited as the source of this information.

However, a top government official refuted these claims, describing them as “fake news” in a WhatsApp post shared Thursday evening.

Addressing the media on Friday morning in Jalingo, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the occurrence of a robbery attack but could not substantiate the involvement of Governor Kefas’ family members in the incident.

“Yes, we received a report of a robbery attack on Wukari-Kente road in the early hours of yesterday, but I can’t confirm whether the Governor’s mother and sister were among the victims,” Usman stated.

He assured the public that investigations are ongoing and pledged that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. “The said incident is being investigated, and hopefully the perpetrators of the act will be brought to book. The people of Taraba should remain calm, as the police and other sister agencies are on top of the security situation in the state,” Usman added.

The incident has raised concerns over security in the area, though authorities urge residents to await official updates as the investigation progresses.
