Lagos Police Apprehend Key Suspects and Recover Weapons
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, on Friday, arrested two additional suspects in connection with the abduction of Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, wife of former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Agbojule Smart and 30-year-old Keleke Michael, were apprehended by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad while attempting to leave Lagos State.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Evidence Recovered from the Suspects
During the arrest, police operatives recovered critical items linked to the crime, including:
- Two locally fabricated rifles.
- 11 live cartridges.
- N2.25 million, part of the ransom paid by the victim’s family.
The Nigeria Police Force shared details of the arrest via its official Facebook handle, stating that the suspects confessed to being part of a four-man gang responsible for the kidnapping. Two members of the gang had been neutralized earlier during operations.
Timeline of the Abduction and Rescue
Mrs. Folasade Odumosu was abducted on January 16, 2024, by four masked men from her residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State. The kidnappers demanded a ransom for her release.
Following a directive from Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Force Headquarters deployed technical intelligence platforms to aid the Ogun State police operatives.
Less than a week after her abduction, Mrs. Odumosu was rescued during a gun battle between police operatives and the kidnappers in a swampy area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on January 22, 2024.
Inspector-General Commends Operatives
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the Lagos State CP Special Squad for their diligence and gallantry in apprehending the suspects.
In a statement, the IG reiterated the police force’s commitment to maintaining public safety, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force is steadfast in its commitment to reducing crime to an absolute minimum and fostering peace across the nation.”
