Pastor Bolaji Idowu, leader of Harvesters International Christian Centre (HICC), has addressed recent reports regarding his interaction with the Nigerian Police, emphasizing that he was invited to assist in an investigation and was not arrested.
Statement from Pastor Idowu
In a video message to his congregation, which surfaced on social media on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Pastor Idowu explained his involvement in a case concerning a church member accused of financial misconduct. He stated:
“This is from me to you: I was invited and not arrested. I was invited by the Police to help in an investigation about a church member that got into some trouble. I would love to say so much to you, but remember that the case is under investigation, and also a person is involved. They all have wives, they all have children, they all have relatives. If you start mentioning names right now, which is what most of you expect me to do, you will also be ruining someone’s life.”
Pastor Idowu emphasized his respect for the investigative process and indicated that his role was to provide assistance to law enforcement. He assured his congregation that he would step aside now that his assistance is complete, allowing the Police to handle the matter.
Response to Media Reports
The cleric criticized media reports for misrepresenting the situation, describing them as inaccurate and misleading. “I will let the Police do their thing while my assistance is over, and I can step aside,” he clarified.
