Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared a three-day mourning period to honor the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, an esteemed native of Ilobu in Osun State. The mourning period began on Thursday, following an announcement of Lagbaja’s passing by President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.
Governor Adeleke has directed that all flags in the state be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect during this period. In a press release signed by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, the state government expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as “devastating” and “a colossal loss to humanity and the nation.”
To allow the public to pay their respects, condolence registers have been opened at the Government House and the Governor’s Office. The government noted that Lagbaja’s legacy and contributions would be remembered for years to come, particularly among the people of Osun.
“The government is saddened by this irreparable loss of one of the Glories of Osun State, and we particularly condole with the Lagbaja family of Ilobu, the Olobu of Ilobu, and everyone,†Alimi said. The statement highlighted that the mourning period will conclude on Saturday, November 9, and the condolence registers will provide an opportunity for the public to share their memories of the late COAS, preserving his legacy for posterity.
Governor Adeleke extended prayers for General Lagbaja’s soul, hoping for his peaceful repose and Aljanna Firdaus, as the state mourns a distinguished leader whose service to Nigeria will be long remembered.
