The National Democratic Mandate Group (NDMG), a political mobilization movement, claims to have completed plans to improve rural areas where women reside.
On the occasion of the opening of the organization’s Abia State Women Wing, the National Woman Leader of NDMG, Hon. Hadiza Hassan, made this announcement in Umuahia yesterday. She also stated that the group “is building a just society which provides basic needs, ensures equal opportunities for self-development through education and gainful employment,” particularly to women in Nigeria.
The group, according to Hon. Hassan, is also pursuing “gender equality and political participation of women” in politics, which will “facilitate women’s direct engagement in public decision-making and as a means of ensuring better accountability to women.” The group was represented by Barr Mrs. Juliana Iwuji, the leader of the South-East Zonal Woman.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the group’s chairman of the Abia State chapter, Kenrry Ibekwe, stated that women “play a critical role in this regard” because 2022 is the year that parties and groups will be actively working to alter the nation’s present political narratives.
The Nigerian women, regardless of their political affiliation, bear the brunt of poorly implemented policies and bad government policies. He states that these women are at the center of the hustle and bustle and that the group’s goal is to “assist women with proper, adequate and contemporary issues and education for efficiency and effectiveness.”
The Abia State Commissioner for Industries, Promotions, and Development, Chief (Mrs.) Uwaoma Olewengwa, expressed regret that women are not receiving their fair share of opportunities in her lecture, “Maintaining The Sanctityy of Women In A Male Dominated Environment – The Challenges and Prospects,” and asserted that God created men and women equally.
“God only divided the roles and did not make anyone half-man or half-woman,” she said, cautioning women that relying on males all the time is not the best course of action. She also added that women are treated unfairly in politics, as evidenced by the Abia State House of Assembly, which has no female members.
Men have closed themselves up against women on purpose everywhere. The commissioner blamed culture and religion, saying that people would only see her when they were seeking pleasure and utilize them as objects of pleasure.
Speaking next, Hon. Lady Adanma Umesi, the Deputy Chairman of the Aba South Local Government, admonished women to maintain their dignity and to actively prevent themselves from being targets for male exploitation.
Hon. Mrs. Nnenna Mary John, the newly appointed chairman of the women wing’s Abia State branch, promised in her acceptance speech that the organization will use her in Abia State to recruit women for sensitization and to teach them how to be self-aware and take care of their families.
