Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate cast his vote on Saturday at Polling Unit 05 in Igbo Ward 4, Obenla community, Ilaje Local Government Area. Arriving with his security aides at 8:46 am, Aiyedatiwa voted by 8:50 am amidst cheers from supporters.
Speaking with journalists after voting, the governor lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the early arrival of officials and voting materials, describing the process as well-organized and efficient. “From what I have seen here today, the election is peaceful, and I have cast my vote. I commend INEC and security agencies for their composure. I urge the people of the state to come out and exercise their franchise without any fear,” he said.
Confidence in Victory
Aiyedatiwa expressed optimism about winning the election, attributing his confidence to his performance in office over the past 10 months and the strong connection he built with the people during his campaign. He stated, “I believe with what we have done in the last 10 months, the voters know who they want. I am at a vantage position in this election because of the works we have accomplished.”
The governor highlighted his extensive campaign efforts, noting that he visited all 18 local governments and major communities, listening to citizens’ concerns and addressing their needs. “I saw with my eyes, felt the people, and listened to them. The love and excitement during the campaigns will translate into votes today,” he said.
Commendation for Peaceful Process
Aiyedatiwa praised the peaceful atmosphere and high voter turnout in his unit, expressing hope for a similarly calm situation across the state. He commended security agencies for ensuring a safe environment and reiterated Ondo State’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s safest and most peaceful states. “We have been having peaceful elections, and this one will not be different,” he assured.
Call for Voter Participation
The governor encouraged eligible voters to participate actively in the election, urging them to decide the state’s leadership for the next four years without fear. “The environment is peaceful and calm. Let everyone come out and vote,” Aiyedatiwa said.
He further expressed confidence in the transparency and credibility of the election, citing his smooth accreditation and voting process. “I believe the INEC officials will ensure the same at other locations. This election will be transparent, credible, and conclusive at the end of the day,” he concluded.
