Following the release of her film Onidiri, Olubukola Bolarinde, CEO of Yellow Dot Limited, is preparing for her first solo art exhibition titled 106 Expressions. Curated by celebrated art and culture expert Nike Davies-Okundaye, the exhibition will feature an intimate showcase of Bolarinde’s artworks, each piece evoking experiences that span across time and cultures.
In a statement, Bolarinde shared her vision for the exhibition: “This collection celebrates our African heritage. The works are inspired by my experiences as an African child and aim to transport viewers to unique moments, seen through the eyes of an African child. With our world changing, many children may never experience these moments.” Bolarinde’s art not only reflects African culture but also serves as a form of cultural preservation, each piece telling its own story.
Born in Lagos and raised across northern Nigerian cities like Jos, Kaduna, and Zaria, Bolarinde’s upbringing deeply influenced her artistic expression, adding layers of cultural identity and diversity to her work. For 106 Expressions, she incorporates acrylics, oils, and textured materials to create visually rich, three-dimensional effects, giving viewers a tactile connection to her art.
The exhibition is scheduled for June 10, 2022, and promises a journey through Africa’s cultural and historical landscapes.
