Olubadan Expresses Sympathy, Calls for Investigation into Ibadan Building Collapse

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has extended his condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent building collapse in the Jegede area of Ona Ara Local Government, Ibadan. In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Olugbemiga Ayoade, on Friday, the monarch described the incident as both “worrisome and unfortunate.”

The building collapse, which occurred on Thursday, reportedly claimed the lives of ten people and left several others injured. Oba Olakulehin expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and called upon the Oyo State government and relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.

In his statement, the Olubadan urged national and state emergency management agencies to provide necessary relief materials for the victims and their families. He emphasized the importance of accountability in building construction, urging agencies responsible for town planning and construction to strictly adhere to safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olakulehin, extends his heartfelt sympathy to the victims and families involved in the tragic building collapse in Ibadan on Thursday. Reports indicate that ten people lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries. This unfortunate incident must be properly investigated to prevent future tragedies,” the statement read.

The Olubadan appealed to experts in building and town planning to ensure compliance with safety standards in construction to safeguard lives and property. He urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency to mobilize relief resources for affected families and support those still receiving medical treatment.

In closing, Oba Olakulehin prayed for the protection of lives and property in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole, expressing hope for a safer future during his reign.
