The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that married female corps members will no longer be required to change their maiden names to their spouse’s names when applying for redeployment.
This update was communicated in a circular signed by the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, and issued to directors, acting directors, and state and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) coordinators.
Dated November 25, 2024, and titled “Review of Criteria for Concessional Deployment/Relocation for Married Female Corps Members,” the circular disclosed that the management had revised the criteria for approving redeployment requests from married female corps members.
The document stated, “Changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of such requests by married female corps members. Other requirements remain as they were.”
It further directed state and FCT coordinators to ensure strict compliance with the new directive, while directors in area offices were tasked with monitoring its implementation.
This change simplifies the redeployment process for married female corps members, removing a significant bureaucratic hurdle and ensuring a more efficient procedure.
