Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano have apprehended two suspects in separate incidents of theft and vandalism.
In a statement issued on Monday, the NSCDC Kano State Command Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed that the first suspect, Murtala Aliyu Muhd, a 35-year-old resident of Dawakin Dakata quarters in Nassarawa Local Government Area, was arrested at the Yankaba Eastern Bypass Roundabout. Muhd allegedly broke into the Dakata Juma’at Mosque through a window and stole a solar energy battery used to power the worship center.
“The suspect was arrested while attempting to sell the battery at a market,” Abdullahi revealed. “When questioned at a security checkpoint, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of where he obtained the battery or where he was taking it.”
It was also reported that Muhd had previously confessed to stealing over ₦300,000 from the same mosque.
In a separate operation, NSCDC operatives apprehended another suspect, 19-year-old Musbahu Sani, a resident of Darmanawa quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area. Sani was caught in possession of large armoured cables allegedly stolen from an electricity transformer in his neighborhood.
“The suspect admitted during interrogation to vandalizing the electricity installation and was en route to the market to sell the stolen cables when he was arrested along Court Road, Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano State,” Abdullahi said.
Both suspects are expected to face court charges after the conclusion of investigations. The NSCDC emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and places of worship, urging residents to report suspicious activities to authorities.
