The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has denied allegations in a viral video suggesting that it sold adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or fuel, in bottles and jerrycans. In a statement on Thursday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, clarified that after conducting spot checks at its outlets, the company found no evidence to support the claim.

The video reportedly shows an individual pouring a dark liquid, alleged to be adulterated PMS purchased from an NNPC Retail outlet at Keffi Flyover. Soneye firmly stated, “NNPC Ltd. categorically states that the product shown in the video was not, and could not have been, purchased from any NNPC Retail outlet, as we do not dispense petroleum products into bottles or jerrycans.”

He emphasized that NNPC Retail Ltd. follows strict quality control protocols, ensuring that all products at its stations meet high standards. “Only high-quality, safe, and reliable petroleum products are available at our stations nationwide,” Soneye said, urging the public to disregard the video’s “spurious claims” and remain wary of misinformation spread for personal or unpatriotic motives.

NNPC Ltd. assures customers of its commitment to accurate pump integrity through regular inspections and calibrations across all stations to maintain consistent product quality.
