Nigeria’s Communications Ministry Develops Blueprints and Infrastructure to Boost Business and Education Through Technology

Bosun-Tijani, Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy

The Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, Tijani Bosun, announced the government’s focus on building infrastructure and developing blueprints to attract businesses to Nigeria. Speaking at the Stakeholders Breakfast Meeting organized by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd. (NigComSat), the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment. The ministry’s efforts center around five key pillars: knowledge, policy, infrastructure, innovation, entrepreneurship, and training.

Bosun, represented by his Special Adviser on Communications and Media, Osibo Imohoitsike, noted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is pro-business and intends to seize every opportunity to push forward business initiatives.

NigComSat’s Managing Director, Mrs. Nkechi Jane Egerton-Idehen, highlighted the rise of EdTech startups in Nigeria. These startups are providing technology-backed learning solutions that will offer schools bundled packages, including affordable internet access and EdTech resources aligned with the Nigerian curriculum. She stressed the need to bridge the digital divide and empower schools, as many laboratories are currently underutilized due to a lack of affordable internet connectivity.

Egerton-Idehen introduced a new EdTech project aimed at empowering students, equipping teachers, and providing resources to primary and secondary schools. The project focuses on improving numeracy and literacy for primary schools, providing digital libraries for secondary schools, and offering content creation tools for teachers along with a learning management system. The initiative is designed to enhance student engagement, promote critical thinking, and address the digital divide in education.

In addition, Egerton-Idehen unveiled a customer experience and support solution for NigComSat’s clients, featuring an AI-powered chatbot and a call center solution. The Executive Director of Marketing & Business Development at NigComSat emphasized the company’s upgraded broadband and broadcasting platform, which is set to drive further innovation and capacity in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
