The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that Nigerian troops are actively pursuing Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists following a recent attack in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. The assault, which occurred during stabilisation operations, resulted in the death of five soldiers, injuries to 10 others, and four troops declared missing.
According to Maj. Gen. Buba Edward, Director of Defence Media Operations, the terrorists launched a coordinated surprise attack, during which they destroyed equipment, including one gun truck, three TCVs, and an excavator. In response, troops eliminated several attackers and recovered weapons from the insurgents.
Reinforcements, supported by air components, have since been deployed to the area to track the terrorists and secure their withdrawal routes.
Maj. Gen. Edward emphasized that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain committed to eradicating terrorism and insurgency in the region, despite such setbacks. Speaking further in an interview, he vowed that the troops would avenge the losses inflicted by the terrorists.
“The terrorists will be made to pay for their actions,” Edward asserted, reaffirming the military’s resolve to bring those responsible to justice.
