A Nigerian TikTok seller, #purely_organicc, has defended her product, “Pems Organic Weight Gain Pap,” after public concerns and calls for an investigation by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The controversy began after health influencer Dr. Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, and others expressed apprehension about the product’s safety and urged NAFDAC to intervene.
Responding in a statement on her TikTok account on Monday, the seller criticized Aproko Doctor for not reaching out directly before publicly tagging NAFDAC. She assured the public that her product is entirely natural, detailing its ingredients, which include oats, sorghum, millet, tiger nut, cashew nut, soya beans, dried plantains, dates, crayfish, and groundnuts—all of which are sorted, washed, and dehydrated before production.
“I do not use any artificial content in my product; they are natural ingredients,” she said, asserting that the pap has been safely used by her own children, relatives, and numerous customers without adverse reactions.
The seller also disclosed that her business is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and that she is actively working to obtain NAFDAC approval.
“This is a product I send within and outside Nigeria, and no child has ever reacted to it! I’ve been working on obtaining NAFDAC documentation for weeks and welcome any lab testing of my products,” she stated.
As public discourse continues, she maintained her openness to inspections and assured customers of the product’s safety, emphasizing her commitment to regulatory compliance.
