The Nigerian Army announced that its troops from the 5 Battalion have successfully neutralized a criminal gang responsible for the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates in Kalaogbokolo, Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State, in December 2023.
Details of the Operation
The Army, in a statement issued on Monday by Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Jonah Danjuma, confirmed that the operation was carried out after receiving credible intelligence about the return of the wanted criminals to the community. The troops conducted a raid on the gang’s hideout, which led to significant recoveries and the apprehension of two gang members.
The statement detailed the operation: “In a carefully planned and orchestrated operation, troops of 5 Battalion, Nigerian Army projected force into the hideout of a criminal gang at Kalaogbokolo in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State. The gang was responsible for the killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates, who were staff of Daewoo company on 12 December 2023.”
Arms and Ammunition Recovered
During the operation, the troops recovered several weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a Fabrique Nationale rifle, a pump-action gun, two locally made rifles, three AK-47 magazines, one FN magazine, as well as 16 rounds of ammunition. The soldiers also apprehended two gang members, who were later neutralized after attempting to escape into the bush during a pursuit.
