The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Sunday the success of airstrikes in Zamfara State that neutralized several bandits, including prominent loyalists of notorious bandit leaders Dan-Isuhu and Dogo Sule. These operations, part of the ongoing Operation Farautar Mujiya, are aimed at dismantling bandit networks in the northwestern region.
According to NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, the strikes targeted a significant gathering of bandits in Babban Kauye village, located in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The congregation of the bandits was reportedly planning coordinated attacks on military personnel and civilians in the region.
Strategic Strikes Against High-Value Targets
Air Commodore Akinboyewa detailed the operation, stating:
“Upon receiving credible intelligence, the NAF launched a series of devastating airstrikes, inflicting significant casualties on the criminal elements. Reports from the ground confirmed the successful elimination of numerous high-ranking members of the bandit groups, dealing a severe blow to their operational capacity.”
Bandit Havens Targeted
The Tsafe Local Government Area has long been a hotspot for bandit activities. Groups loyal to Dan-Isuhu and Dogo Sule are notorious for orchestrating violent attacks on communities, security forces, and infrastructure. Remote settlements like Babban Kauye have been used as safe havens and operational bases by these factions.
The airstrikes targeted these strategic locations, dismantling their operational hubs and disrupting planned assaults. Intelligence sources revealed that the congregation of bandits was finalizing plans for large-scale attacks when the strikes occurred.
Operation Farautar Mujiya and Regional Stability
The air interdiction missions align with the broader objectives of Operation Fansan Yamma, which seeks to degrade bandit networks and restore peace to Nigeria’s embattled northwest region. The recent strikes are part of a coordinated effort by the NAF, working alongside other security agencies.
Akinboyewa reaffirmed the military’s commitment:
“The latest air strikes represent a robust response and support for the Theatre Command of Operation Fansan Yamma by the NAF. These efforts are geared toward dismantling and degrading bandit networks, disrupting their planned attacks, and restoring peace and stability to the Northwest.”
Commitment to National Security
The NAF emphasized its dedication to collaborating with sister services and security agencies to ensure the safety and stability of the region. It vowed to eliminate threats posed by terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements undermining Nigeria’s peace and prosperity.
The strikes not only highlight the military’s proactive stance against insurgents but also demonstrate a commitment to securing vulnerable communities and thwarting criminal activities in the region.
