The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the recall of the Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-On deodorant (50ml), marketed as providing 48-hour protection in African climates. This recall follows a warning from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products based in Brussels.
In a notice released on Thursday, NAFDAC identified the affected batch as number 93529610, manufactured in Germany with a Bar Code Number 42299882. According to the agency, the product contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetics due to potential health risks. This compound may harm reproductive health, pose risks to unborn children, and cause skin irritation or burns.
NAFDAC advised importers, distributors, and retailers to be vigilant to prevent further distribution of the specified batch of Nivea roll-ons. Consumers in possession of the affected product should stop use immediately and return any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
The agency also encouraged healthcare professionals and consumers to report any adverse reactions through the nearest NAFDAC office, by emailing pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, or via online platforms at www.nafdac.gov.ng and the Med-Safety mobile app, available for download on Android and iOS.
