NACA Urges Responsible Sexual Behavior During Festive Season to Prevent Spread of HIV and STIs

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has called on Nigerians to practice responsible and safe sexual behavior during the festive season to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

This reminder was highlighted in a press release issued on Tuesday by Toyin Aderibigbe, NACA’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol. The agency’s Director General, Dr. Gambo Aliyu, emphasized the importance of adopting safe sexual practices to reduce the risk of HIV transmission during the festive celebrations.

Dr. Aliyu urged Nigerians to be cautious, noting that engaging in unprotected and risky sexual behavior increases the chances of contracting HIV and other STIs. He stated, “As we gather with our loved ones during this joyous season, it is crucial to prioritize our health. By practicing safe sex and making responsible choices, we contribute to a healthier society.”

The Director General also highlighted abstinence, faithfulness to one partner, and consistent use of condoms as key preventive measures in curbing the spread of these infections. He assured that NACA remains committed to raising awareness and promoting public health strategies to protect the population from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

NACA is responsible for coordinating Nigeria’s HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care efforts, with a mission to lead the national response and provide support to stakeholders involved in combating the disease.
