A motorcyclist, Ahmed Owolabi, narrowly escaped death in Arepo, Ogun State, when his passenger, Sherif Oyeniyi, suddenly attacked him with a razor blade, inflicting deep cuts on his neck. The chilling incident occurred while they were in motion on Saturday afternoon, leaving the victim in critical condition.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the attack in a statement by its spokesperson, CPS Omolola Odutola, detailing how quick action by residents and police officers saved Owolabi’s life.

The incident took place at 4:15 PM near Orange Estate, Arepo. Owolabi, a 27-year-old resident of Onimane Magada, Ibafo, was carrying Oyeniyi, who resides at 44 Association Road, Orange Estate, Voera, Arepo, when the attack occurred. Without warning, Oyeniyi pulled out a razor blade and slashed Owolabi’s neck twice.
Eyewitness Alani Muritala, a resident of Shefu Elede in Ibafo, raised the alarm and reported the attack to the police. Responding swiftly, officers from the local division arrived at the scene, transported Owolabi to the hospital, and arrested Oyeniyi.

During interrogation, Oyeniyi admitted to visiting a voodoo practitioner before the attack, although he denied being instructed to carry out a ritual killing. When asked about his motive, he blamed his actions on “the devil’s handiwork,” displaying no remorse for the gruesome assault.
According to CPS Odutola, “The suspect showed no sign of regret during questioning. The Divisional Crime Branch is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover the full circumstances and motive behind this violent act.”

Owolabi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. The quick intervention of bystanders and law enforcement likely saved his life, as he was losing blood rapidly from the deep cuts.
