Tragic Loss of a Young Life
A grieving Nigerian mother, identified as Ella, has taken to social media to demand justice for the death of her two-year-old daughter at a school in Lagos. Ella, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that her daughter left for school on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, but tragically did not return alive.
Discrepancies in School’s Account of Events
Ella alleged that the school initially claimed her daughter drowned in a pool on the premises. However, she questioned the narrative, asserting that the child was electrocuted and that her body was placed in the pool to make it appear as though drowning was the cause of death.
She wrote, “Dear Lagos State Government, our daughter of two years old went to school yesterday and did not return alive. How do you have a pool on school premises without proper monitoring? They lied she drowned in the pool, but we have been able to find out that it’s electrocution, and they dropped her in the pool to look as if it was drowning.”
Concerns About School Safety and Transparency
The devastated mother expressed concerns about the safety measures in place at the school, pointing out inconsistencies in the account of the incident. She noted that the pool had barricades, making it difficult for a two-year-old to climb.
Ella also criticized the school for misleading other parents about the incident. “Now, they are lying to other parents that the school is closed because of maintenance instead of telling the truth. If nothing is done to close down that school, other parents may cry for their own kids,” she stated.
Call for Accountability
Ella’s posts included a heartfelt plea for justice, highlighting the magnitude of her loss. “She just celebrated her second birthday November last year. She left home well for school on 15/1/2025 and never came back alive,” she wrote.
The incident has sparked widespread concern on social media, with many users demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Government and Public Reactions
As Ella’s story gains traction online, calls for accountability have grown louder. Advocacy groups, parents, and concerned citizens are urging the Lagos State Government to step in and investigate the matter. Many are also questioning the safety standards in schools across the state and the apparent lack of transparency from the school involved.
Need for Stringent Safety Regulations
This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for stringent safety regulations and oversight in schools, particularly those with facilities such as swimming pools. Experts have emphasized the importance of childproofing such areas, ensuring constant supervision, and providing appropriate staff training to prevent similar occurrences.
Awaiting Official Statement
At the time of this report, the Lagos State Government and relevant authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. However, public pressure is mounting for swift action to uncover the truth and ensure justice for the bereaved family.
Ella’s heartrending plea serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of accountability in safeguarding the lives of children entrusted to educational institutions. As investigations continue, the hope remains that the truth will prevail and appropriate measures will be taken to prevent future tragedies.
