Moniepoint Launches Personal Banking App to Enhance Financial Inclusion in Nigeria

Microfinance Bank Moniepoint has introduced a new personal banking app aimed at expanding access to financial services across Nigeria. At an unveiling event in Lagos, Moniepoint’s Senior Vice President of Channels and Sales, Ope Adeyemi, highlighted that the app enables users to perform essential financial transactions, including funds transfers and bill payments, with additional gamified incentives to encourage regular use.

The app’s gamified approach includes weekly rewards, where users can earn N2,000 weekly and a grand prize of N10 million by accumulating “coins” through transactions, which can be used to participate in engaging in-app games. Adeyemi emphasized this reward structure as a strategy to boost financial inclusion, saying, “To drive behavioural change and increase adoption, you should reward consistently good behaviour.”

Acting Managing Director Babatunde Olofin noted Moniepoint’s commitment to making financial access a fundamental right for all Nigerians. He shared that Moniepoint serves over 1.5 million businesses and processes more than 400 billion transactions monthly, equating to around $12 billion. The platform offers a range of financial services, from payments and credit to digital banking and business management solutions.

“Everybody deserves financial access,” said Olofin. “Financial access should be a right, not a privilege.”
