Minister of Education, UK Tech CEO, and Key Leaders to Speak at 2023 Edutech Summit on Bridging STEM and CleanTech for Sustainable Education

The 2023 Edutech Summit, set to take place in Abuja, will feature prominent speakers, including Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and Akindayo Akindolani, CEO of McAnderson Associates, UK. Organized by Afritex in partnership with various stakeholders, the two-day event will explore the theme “Next Step Learning – Bridging Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Education (STEM) with Cleantech.” The summit’s focus is on integrating clean technology to support sustainable, future-ready education in Nigeria.

Akindolani shared that the summit aims to foster collaborations with cleantech companies to develop innovative, environmentally friendly learning solutions. Highlighting the partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Microsoft, he noted that nearly 500 students across Bauchi, Lagos, and Abia States are currently being trained in ICT through the “Coding for Employment” initiative, underscoring the potential for digital skills to enhance youth employability. He emphasized the importance of incorporating online safety into digital education strategies as part of these advancements.

Summit organizer Oyesola Oworu of Afritex described this fifth annual gathering as a convergence of leading educators, innovators, and advocates for tech-driven educational advancements. According to Oworu, the event will empower students to apply STEM and CleanTech knowledge in tackling local environmental issues, thereby supporting schools in reducing their carbon footprint.

Prominent government figures slated to join the event include William Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Mr. Tope Fashedemi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Ahmed Salihijo, CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and Sonny Echono, Executive Secretary of TETFUND.
