Hannatu Musa-Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, has urged songwriters and music artists across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to create a national theme song that embodies the country’s values and aspirations. In her vision, this song will serve as a unifying anthem to inspire national pride and foster belief in the Nigerian project.
In a statement issued by her media office, the Minister expressed that establishing a theme song is among her top priorities since assuming office. She encouraged Nigerian songwriters and musicians to contribute to the creative process, aimed at showcasing the spirit and resilience of the Nigerian people. “The Minister pointed out that one of her key plans in the immediate is to have a National Theme Song for the Nigerian brand,” the statement read. Musa-Musawa envisions the anthem as a cultural touchstone that will foster unity and a positive national identity.
In addition to rebranding Nigeria’s global image, the Minister emphasized the importance of moving away from negative associations tied to poverty, fraud, and terrorism. She noted that a collaborative effort among Nigerians is crucial to reshaping the country’s international reputation positively. She stated, “To change the nation’s image positively beyond the shores of this country will require the collective support of all well-meaning Nigerians.”
Musa-Musawa also highlighted her commitment to leveraging the country’s rich creative sector to boost foreign revenue. “The Nigerian creative industry has come of age, and it is time to project it in a new exportable dimension for improved foreign earnings,” she said, adding that the public should anticipate impactful initiatives aimed at strengthening the creative sector and supporting its growth in the global market.
