The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Akeem Sumonu, 20, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl in the Olodo Community of Odeda Local Government Area, Ogun State.
FRONTPAGE Metro learned from the Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday that the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday by agents stationed at the community’s security post.
The survivor’s mother, named only as Christiana, told police that the suspect reportedly forcefully attacked and raped her daughter in October 2024, then threatened her to keep it a secret.
According to a police source, the adolescent kept the incident hidden owing to the terror instilled in her by the suspect until her mother detected peculiar changes in her behaviour and injuries acquired during the claimed assault.Chief Superintendent Omolola Odutola, a state police spokeswoman, stated, “The victim concealed the assault from her parents until the complaint detected strange signs on her body.
“She then confided in her mother, revealing that the suspect had forcibly raped her, causing her to lose her virginity, and had threatened her not to tell anyone.”
Following his arrest by community police, the man reportedly confessed to physically abusing the girl and threatened her quiet.
Odutola said that the issue worsened when the survivor’s medical report revealed she was eight weeks pregnant, which was assumed to be the outcome of the crime.
“The culprit has been arrested and held. “Odutola added that once the case is transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, further investigation will take place.”
FRONTPAGE In March 2024, Metro reported a similar occurrence in which a pastor called Adeleye Dada was accused of raping and impregnating the teenage daughter of one of his church members in the Gasline region of Ifo Local Government region, the state.
The defendant apparently took the girl to another church, distinct from his, and informed the pastor that the girl was engaging in a prayer that required her.
