The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, commonly known as the Lagos State Taskforce, has confiscated over 70 vehicles for severe breaches of the state’s traffic regulations. In a statement released on Monday, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Public Affairs for the Taskforce, confirmed that the vehicles were seized in targeted operations at key locations known for frequent traffic violations by commercial drivers, which often result in traffic congestion and public disturbance.
The vehicles were impounded following coordinated enforcement activities at Okuta Road Junction in Bariga, Oba Akran Road by Kodesoh under the bridge in Ikeja, and Ladipo by Five Star along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway. These areas are notorious for reckless driving behaviors that contribute to traffic jams and disrupt the flow of traffic.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, emphasized that the agency will strictly enforce traffic laws to restore order and ensure public safety on Lagos roads. “The agency under my stewardship will not spare violators of environmental and traffic laws of the state any breathing space,” Akerele asserted, urging motorists to comply with regulations to help improve environmental order, safety, and overall security in the state.
Akerele highlighted that traffic congestion is a man-made problem, resulting from the indiscipline of motorists, and reiterated the agency’s commitment to addressing lawlessness on Lagos roads.
