The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans for the 2025 edition of its annual end-of-year fiesta, the Greater Lagos Countdown. The celebration, touted as the biggest countdown event in Africa, will take place across five major locations: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe. The festivities begin at 7 pm on December 31 and culminate with New Year celebrations on January 1, 2025.
Star-Studded Lineup
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the event on Tuesday, highlighting a lineup featuring some of Africa’s most celebrated music superstars.
“This December, Lagos welcomed the world, and now we’re ready to host the biggest countdown event in Africa,” Sanwo-Olu wrote in a statement on X.com.
The headline acts include Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, and Seyi Vibez. The accompanying promotional video also revealed performances by BNXN, Qinq Madi, 9ice, Adewale Ayuba, Lojay, Adekunle Gold, and Niniola.
Sanwo-Olu described the countdown as more than just a concert, emphasizing its cultural and unifying significance. “The Greater Lagos Countdown is a celebration of our vibrant culture, our unity, and the indomitable Lagos spirit,” he said.
“Join us for a night of music, cultural showcases, and unmatched Lagos energy as we welcome 2025 the Lagos way — in grand style. This is Lagos. We’re different,” the governor added.

The exclusion of Afrobeats star Davido from the lineup sparked mixed reactions among fans and observers on social media.
