The Kwara State University (KWASU) management clarified that Ayeyemi Sulaiman, allegedly killed by police last Tuesday in the Tanke area of Ilorin, was not a current student.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, acting Director of University Relations, KWASU noted that Sulaiman had withdrawn from the Department of Statistics in the 2018/2019 academic session, during his 200 level.
“The management of Kwara State University sympathizes with the family of the deceased and prays for strength in this time of loss,” Aliyu said.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, involving a 27-year-old, Sulaiman Olayinka, stating that the police were investigating a complaint of cheating and breach of trust against him at the time. Following the incident, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed that police officers involved in the alleged killing had been arrested and detained, with an orderly room trial underway at the Police Headquarters.
