UNESCO’s recent report highlights a significant gap in learning data across Africa, especially for primary education, impeding targeted improvements in education quality. Addressing this, Kwara State’s new KwaraLEARN Situation Room, launched on December 14, demonstrates an innovative approach to real-time data use in educational oversight. Powered by NewGlobe’s Spotlight software, the Situation Room enables Kwara’s officials to access up-to-date information on critical metrics like attendance, staff presence, and student performance across primary schools in the state.
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak highlighted the system’s real-time data collection as a breakthrough, offering immediate visibility into school operations and allowing swift responses to issues such as absenteeism or learning challenges. The data visualization tools allow officials to pinpoint regional disparities in education, enabling tailored interventions to improve learning outcomes.
Honourable Commissioner for Education Saadatu Moddibo Kawu and Prof. Shehu Adaramaja of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board also attended the launch, which positioned KwaraLEARN as a leading example of how data-driven education systems can address learning gaps effectively. Through tools like the Situation Room, Kwara State joins pioneering regions in Sub-Saharan Africa dedicated to transforming education based on tangible, actionable insights.
