Kunle Afolayan Wins Best Indigenous Language (Yoruba) at 2023 AMVCA for Anikulapo

Renowned Nigerian producer and director, Kunle Afolayan, has clinched the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) 2023 in the ‘Best Indigenous Language’ (Yoruba) category for his film Anikulapo. The win adds to Afolayan’s growing list of accolades, further solidifying his standing in the African film industry.

Anikulapo competed fiercely in the Best Overall Movie category, alongside Femi Adebayo’s King of Thieves (Agesinkole), Funke Akindele’s Battle on Buka Street, Jade Osiberu’s Brotherhood, Kayode Kasum’s Ile Owo, Mugisha Morris’ Tembele, and Winifred Mena-Ajakpovi’s Four Four Forty-Four.

The 9th edition of the prestigious AMVCA, held at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, is known as one of Africa’s biggest entertainment events. The glamorous affair was filled with dazzling stars who made memorable appearances on the black carpet.

The black carpet hosts for the evening included Toke Makinwa, Uti Nwachukwu, Sika Osei, and VJ Adams, who engaged the celebrities and added to the excitement of the night. Additionally, viewers were given the chance to vote for their best dressed male and female celebrities of the evening.

The event was co-hosted by popular Nigerian TV and radio host, IK Osakioduwa, alongside Miss Universe 2019, South Africa’s Zozi Tunzi, adding even more star power to an already dazzling night of celebration for African cinema.
