The Katsina State Police Command has paraded Adewumi Gabriel, Head of ATM Operations at a new generation bank’s Daura branch, for allegedly conspiring with a colleague, David Mesioye (currently at large), to steal ₦18 million from a customer’s account. Gabriel reportedly confessed to using insider knowledge of bank operations to execute the theft, which was uncovered during an audit.
Police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu revealed that ₦10.18 million was traced to Gabriel’s various bank accounts, while ₦366,900 in cash and other valuables were recovered as evidence.
In a separate case, the police arrested Bishir Abdullahi, a 37-year-old resident of Sokoto State, for possession of 14 stolen ATM cards at an old-generation bank’s ATM in Katsina. Abdullahi was reportedly caught swapping ATM cards with unsuspecting users to access their accounts.
The arrest was made by an officer on duty at the bank’s Tudun Katsira branch in Katsina metropolis after observing Abdullahi’s suspicious behavior. A search revealed the stolen cards, and preliminary investigations showed that Abdullahi used the cards to withdraw ₦2.705 million from victims’ accounts.
Both suspects are set to face prosecution upon completion of investigations, according to the police.
