Olomide Osoba, the governor of the Lagos State chapter of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has disclosed that 2021 is a busy year for the association since there are many plans that will be carried out as soon as possible by key players in the music business.
According to Osoba, R, the Lagos State branch of the union started a campaign to bring gifted musicians and young people interested in music into the entertainment industry. The campaign’s main goal is to eradicate all social vices that plague modern society and to give young people a platform for “EDUTAINMENT” where they can showcase their creativity, academic prowess, tradition, skills, fashion, beauty, and philosophy.
He claims that the plan has all the features and services one would anticipate from a project of this caliber.
The plan calls for the identification of organizations, interest groups, promoters, songwriters, musicians, and all other participants in the entertainment industry, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in order for them to collaborate with the PMAN Lagos State executive, safeguard intellectual property and productions, and retain the right to diversify revenue generation and all sums owed to artist works and/or associations (PMAN).
In order to identify key figures in the industry and provide a long-term platform for their protection, the PMAN Lagos State chapter has officially created a central collection catalog for all artists residing in Lagos State, with a focus on current and potential PMAN members. The association and its members have lost a great deal of money to unscrupulous sales agencies and groups, such as pirates, due to a weak structure, which is why the central data became necessary.
“We hope that the drive will contribute to the restoration of PMAN’s former splendor and its lost members who are registered with the association, recognized as musicians who will receive fair compensation.
He added that PMAN is the only legitimate entertainment union, recognized under the Trade Union Act of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and that it protects the rights and manages the business of Nigerian musicians. It is the sole organization with the legal right to speak and act on behalf of the whole Nigerian entertainment sector, having been established as the union for all entertainment practitioners.
“Until all of us recognize that the Performing Musician Employers Association of Nigeria, or PMAN, is our collective duty and the only forum to protect our people’s intellectual property, we will never be free,” he continued.
