The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the tragic discovery and retrieval of a lifeless, unidentified man from a well within an uncompleted building in the Kadama Bakin Titi area of Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano. The incident, reported to have taken place on Saturday, has left the local community shaken and prompted further investigations by law enforcement.

In a formal statement, the Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, provided details on the operation: “On Saturday, November 2, 2024, at approximately 16:15 hours, our central control room received an urgent distress call from the DPO of Kwalli Police Division, informing us that a body had been sighted in a well located within an unfinished building at Kadama Bakin Titi.”

Abdullahi recounted that a rescue team was immediately dispatched, arriving at the scene around 16:40 hours. The location of the well, surrounded by construction debris and standing water, created challenging conditions for the rescue team. Observers noted signs of a struggle or injury due to visible dried blood stains near the well’s edge, which raised suspicions about the cause of the man’s fall.

Upon inspection, the rescue team found the body of a young man, estimated to be around 25 years old, at the bottom of the well. Due to the advanced stage of decomposition, it appeared that the individual had been in the well for several days, with local residents estimating his presence there for at least four days. The swelling and condition of the body indicated the prolonged time spent submerged, which added complexity to the retrieval process.

“Our team faced significant difficulties in extracting the body due to the condition of the well and the advanced state of decomposition,” Abdullahi stated. “However, after a careful and coordinated effort, the body was successfully removed from the well.”

Following the recovery, the body was formally handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO2) of Kumbotso Police Division, ASP Sani Abdulhamid, who was present on the scene to receive it. The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and none of the residents recognized him as a local, suggesting he might not have been from the immediate vicinity. Law enforcement authorities have launched an inquiry to establish the circumstances leading to his presence in the well.

Local residents expressed shock at the discovery, with many recounting the unsettling atmosphere over the past few days as a foul odor permeated the area. Some residents reported suspecting the presence of a dead animal nearby but were unaware of a human presence until the police’s arrival.

This incident marks another tragic case for the Kano State Fire Service and underscores the ongoing public safety and security concerns within the region. Further investigation will aim to uncover the man’s identity, the circumstances leading to his fall into the well, and any potential foul play involved.
