Apprehension of Suspects
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the abduction and murder of Atiku Mu’azu, a retired Permanent Secretary and former Chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service.
Mu’azu, who had been residing in Kano State following his retirement from public service, was reportedly abducted and later killed.
Speaking on Sunday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Abdullahi, stated, “Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the death of the Gombe retired permanent secretary and are now in our custody. As soon as the investigation is completed, the suspects will be charged to court for appropriate prosecution.”
Tributes and Condolences
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, expressed his shock and sadness upon hearing of Mu’azu’s death, describing it as a great loss to the state.
Separate Kidnapping Incident in Garo Town
In a separate incident, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded Garo town in the Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State early Sunday morning, abducting a young lady named Zainab.
The assailants, estimated to be about 10 in number, targeted the residence of a prominent businessman, Alhaji Auwal, in Garo Sabuwar Unguwa. The attack occurred around 1:20 a.m., with the gunmen gaining entry by breaking through a small door.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers kidnapped the eldest daughter of the family, a secondary school graduate, before fleeing the scene.
Police Response and Investigation
The Kano State Police Command has launched a search operation to rescue the abducted girl and apprehend the suspects. SP Haruna Abdullahi confirmed the police’s swift response and ongoing efforts.
“The police have swung into action with a view to rescuing the victim and apprehending the fleeing suspects,” he said.
As of now, the abducted girl’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the kidnappers have yet to establish communication with the family.
