Nigeria’s cellular service provider, 9mobile, has emphasized the significance of creating a society that promotes greater young representation while adding its voice to the worldwide appeal for generational cooperation to create an equal, peaceful, and successful society.

The telco made the call during an Instagram live session hosted by Olorisupergal and featuring ace comedian and actor Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome (Ali Baba) to discuss the importance of youths in society in honor of this year’s International Youth Day theme, “Inter-generational Solidarity: Creating A World for All Ages.”

According to Akpobome, a culture of shared values that accommodates both the young and the old at home and at work is essential to fostering intergenerational solidarity in society and bridging the gap between the older and younger generations. This would encourage a convergence of knowledge regarding the necessity of respect for one another for everyone.

He stated: “Achieving a balance amongst age groups can be achieved through tolerance and understanding.” In order to deal with the disparities in values and behavior of today’s youth, the elder generation needs to be receptive to the reality of the modern world. Stated differently, coping with the cultural shock experienced by the younger generation and the elderly requires tolerance, respect, and cultural awareness.

In addition, Akpobome stated that young people needed to be fairly represented in the fields of politics, education, and the economy. She noted that in order to fully utilize their God-given potential, platforms where young people can be appropriately and productively involved needed to be established immediately.

Mallam Abdulrahman Ado, Executive Director, Regulator and Corporate Affairs, 9mobile, commented on the theme’s significance and pointed out that in order for a society to make progress toward its developmental goals, its youths must be engaged and given the necessary tools to be leaders and problem solvers.
As a youthful brand, 9mobile is concerned with the growth and development of young people because they represent the future we see today. As such, we must support and give them a sense of belonging, which will inevitably inspire them to succeed and contribute to the sustainability and advancement of society, the speaker stated.

He urged all parties involved to take a more calculated approach to spearheading programs that uphold youth inclusivity, foster intergenerational solidarity, and ensure a peaceful and forward-thinking environment for everybody.

The United Nations established International Youth Day to raise awareness of issues impacting young people, draw attention from around the world, and celebrate young people’s potential as collaborators in today’s global society.
