Operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Unit have arrested a 36-year-old woman suspected of child trafficking in Amajeke, Owerri. The operation also led to the rescue of three children reportedly stolen by the suspect in Anambra State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, noting that the operation followed extensive investigations and intelligence gathering. “The rescued children have since been safely reunited with their families,” he added.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted her involvement in child trafficking and revealed that she worked with a syndicate based in Onitsha. She disclosed that the group targeted children from unsuspecting parents in both Anambra and Imo States, selling them to buyers.

Okoye stated that efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large. “The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eradicating child trafficking and other related crimes in the state. He called on the public to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of children and prevent such heinous acts.

The Imo State Police Command vowed to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable individuals and urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
