The 2023 Idoma International Carnival is set to bring sons and daughters of Idoma to Otukpo, Benue State, this December for a vibrant celebration of culture, fun, and entertainment. Organizers are finalizing preparations for the highly anticipated event, which is expected to be a landmark cultural experience.
According to Dr. Edwin Ochai, President of the Idoma Association in the United States, the carnival promises a spectacular celebration, showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the Idoma people. He highlighted key activities, including a gospel jamboree that will open the festivities as a thanksgiving event, followed by a cultural exploration of the carnival village, where attendees can immerse themselves in Idoma culture.
On December 24th, the streets of Otukpo will host a vibrant parade of bikers and a peace walk, symbolizing unity and harmony. The carnival will reach its peak on Christmas Day with a grand parade and cultural fiesta, featuring traditional Idoma costumes, music, dance, and folklore.
The event will conclude on December 26th with the glamorous Nigeria Carnival Queen 2023 pageant, where a deserving young woman will be crowned for embodying the spirit of the carnival through intelligence, grace, and beauty.
Henry Ipole, Vice-President of the carnival organization, emphasized the significance of the event, which has grown into a major cultural attraction over its 11-year history, promoting tourism, cultural exchange, and economic development in Benue State. Endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and recognized by the Benue State Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Idoma International Carnival continues to celebrate and promote the culture and traditions of the Idoma people.
