Honourable Abiola Peter Makinde, representing Ondo East/West federal constituency, has once again supported primary and secondary school students with crucial educational materials to enhance their academic success. At the 8th edition of this annual event held in Ondo town, Makinde provided laptops, projectors, subject-specific textbooks, notebooks, chairs, and lockers to students within his constituency, marking a continuation of his commitment to youth education and empowerment.
Makinde, who currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Human Rights, has supported students through this initiative even before his tenure in the House of Representatives. Reflecting on his motivation, the lawmaker noted that his personal journey, alongside that of his wife, Dr. Rhoda Makinde, had been positively shaped by others’ support. This experience inspired them to give back and be “pillars of support” to others, especially the younger generation who represent the nation’s future.
Hon. Makinde emphasized the need for comprehensive education, stating, “These students are our tomorrow. No prosperous nation casts kids away; rather, they are built up through education to be valuable to themselves and the nation in years to come.” The provision of these materials also aligns with his campaign platform, “WEALTH,” focusing on Water, Education, Agriculture, Light, Training, and Health.
Students receiving the items expressed gratitude and promised to use them responsibly to further their studies. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Rhoda Makinde, the convener of the Dr. Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI), Ondo State House of Assembly member Hon. Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, APC leaders, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Chairman, and various educational stakeholders.
