Out of 38 directors shortlisted for permanent secretary positions in the Federal Civil Service, 19 failed the initial qualifying examination, according to recent updates from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF).

In October, the Federal Government began selecting new permanent secretaries to fill roles in eight states, with officials under disciplinary actions excluded from the process. Approved by President Bola Tinubu, the selection is a three-stage process aimed at ensuring transparency and quality.

Eno Olotu, Director of Press at OHCSF, stated that the 19 remaining candidates would proceed to the second stage on November 13, 2024, which will assess their ICT skills in government operations. Finalists will face a panel of senior bureaucrats and private sector representatives on November 15, 2024, to complete the selection process.
