The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a traffic advisory for travellers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, suggesting alternative routes due to a tanker accident that occurred on Sunday. The accident happened in the early hours under the Ibafo pedestrian bridge on the outbound Lagos section, leading to significant traffic disruptions.
According to Mr. Bisi Kazeem, FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC officials, alongside security agencies, have been managing the situation since the incident. The tanker’s contents have been safely trans-loaded to another vehicle, and the Ogun State Fire Service is on standby to ensure safety.
However, Kazeem noted that some impatient drivers driving against the traffic flow have worsened congestion, affecting both outbound and inbound sections of the expressway.
For those traveling in and out of Lagos, FRSC recommends alternative routes including Ikorodu via Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, as well as Epe for those heading towards Lagos. Additionally, Abeokuta via the Sagamu Interchange is suggested as an alternate path to avoid the affected area.
