Olajumoke Orisaguna, widely known as “Olajumoke Onibread,” has shared the harrowing details of her experience with domestic violence during her tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, Sunday Orisaguna.
Olajumoke rose to fame in 2016 after a chance encounter thrust her into the spotlight. While hawking bread on the streets of Lagos, she accidentally walked into a photoshoot featuring British rapper Tinie Tempah, captured by celebrated Nigerian photographer TY Bello. The photographs propelled her into overnight fame and launched a promising modeling career.
However, speaking recently on City FM, the former model disclosed the painful realities she faced behind the scenes. She recounted enduring years of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her ex-husband.
The challenges, she revealed, began in Ire, Osun State, where they initially lived. According to Olajumoke, her struggles were exacerbated by what she described as a hostile environment, including mistreatment from her mother-in-law.
After moving to Lagos in search of better opportunities, Olajumoke began hawking bread to support her family. This marked the beginning of her journey to stardom when her chance encounter with TY Bello changed her life.
Despite her newfound fame, Olajumoke said her troubles followed her to Lagos when Sunday joined her there. She alleged that the abuse persisted even as her modeling career flourished.
Societal stigma and the challenges of being a mother of two kept Olajumoke silent about her experiences for a long time. She admitted that fear of judgment and cultural expectations made it difficult for her to speak out or leave the toxic relationship.
The situation worsened after their separation. Olajumoke claimed that Sunday attempted to damage her reputation and undermine the support she had received, which she said negatively impacted her career.
Her candid revelations shed light on the struggles many women face behind closed doors, even in the midst of public success.
