The Governing Council of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in Kogi State has approved the dismissal of four lecturers over allegations of examination misconduct and sexual harassment. The decision was reached during the university’s second council meeting, held recently in Lokoja, under the chairmanship of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.
During the meeting, the council endorsed the findings from a series of investigations, commending the university management for following due process in addressing these serious allegations. The council emphasized that FUL upholds a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any form of unethical conduct within the institution. This decision, they added, underscores the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards of academic integrity and a safe learning environment.
The council also urged the university administration to expedite the processing of other pending cases, particularly one within the Faculty of Science that has recently attracted media attention. The council’s firm stance on misconduct is seen as part of an ongoing effort to ensure all allegations within the university are resolved swiftly and fairly.
In addition to dismissing the lecturers, the council issued a strong warning to all staff members and faculty, urging them to adhere strictly to ethical standards. Students were encouraged to speak out and report any instances of harassment or misconduct they might experience or witness, assuring them that reports will be handled with the utmost confidentiality and seriousness.
This decision reflects FUL’s broader commitment to fostering a respectful and accountable environment for all members of its academic community, the council noted.
