The Director/Principal of Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Yaba, Lagos, Mr. David Omada, emphasized the role of sports in developing leadership and tolerance skills among students during the school’s 52nd Inter-house Sports Competition. According to Omada, sports teach discipline, a fundamental quality for achieving success in life. He called on corporate organizations and stakeholders to support the school in upgrading its sports facilities to provide students with an optimal environment for both learning and athletic development.
“Today’s Inter-house Sports Competition showcases our students’ diverse skills in various sporting activities,” Omada stated, noting that sports not only enhance physical health but also strengthen social interaction. However, he expressed concerns about the state of the college’s sports field, which he described as “bald” and inadequate for track and field events, thus limiting students’ potential.
The outgoing Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee, Mr. Ladi Lawanson, further stressed the importance of regular exposure to sports with high-quality facilities. “Inter-house sports competitions are crucial for discovering talent. Students should have the freedom to develop their skills within structured rules,” Lawanson said, reinforcing the importance of sports in holistic student development.
