In a move aimed at revolutionizing the livestock value chain in Nigeria, leading online agro-commodity aggregator, Farmcrowdy Group, has entered into a strategic partnership with Best Foods Livestock and Poultry Limited. This collaboration seeks to consolidate resources in finance, technology, sales, and marketing to boost the market presence of Best Foods through Farmcrowdy’s subsidiary, Farmgate Africa.
According to a statement released by the companies, the partnership will work to improve livestock production and the quality of meat processing in Nigeria, aligning practices with international standards and reducing the need for imported processed meat. The focus is to raise the standards of meat production nationwide, ensuring a consistent supply of healthy, traceable, and disease-free cattle.
Emmanuel Ijewere, Chairman of Best Foods Group, highlighted the significant demand for meat in Lagos, where over 6,000 cows are consumed daily. He emphasized that the partnership would provide the necessary funding to establish world-class meat processing practices in Nigeria. Ijewere also pointed out that this collaboration has the potential to expand beyond the meat industry, with both companies sharing synergies that could positively impact Nigeria’s agricultural sector as a whole.
Onyeka Akumah, CEO and Founder of Farmcrowdy Group, reaffirmed the long-term vision of the partnership, stating that the goal is to ensure that Nigerians have access to quality beef. “This partnership will involve raising, processing, and distributing high-quality beef to major buyers across the country,” Akumah said.
Kenneth Obiajulu, Managing Director of Farmgate Africa, also expressed excitement about the partnership’s potential to meet growing demand from key markets, including restaurants, hotels, schools, and catering services. He noted that the initiative would help combat animal-to-human diseases by offering disease-free, fit-for-slaughter cattle from Farmcrowdy’s feedlots.
This partnership is seen as a significant step towards modernizing Nigeria’s livestock industry and ensuring the availability of safe, quality meat to meet the country’s growing demand.
