The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a fake military officer, Kingsley Wanogho, for abducting a young man in Ikeja and later abandoning him on the Third Mainland Bridge after stealing his iPhone 13.
The Incident and Arrest
Wanogho, a 42-year-old dismissed army sergeant and ex-convict, was apprehended after one of his victims spotted him near Computer Village in Ikeja on Saturday. The suspect had posed as an army officer during the abduction and had used this false identity to intimidate his victim, Solomon.
Details of the Abduction
According to preliminary investigations, on December 30, 2024, Wanogho accused Solomon of stumbling into him, claiming that he had lost a gold ring in the process. He demanded that Solomon produce the ring. Wanogho then presented a fake army identification card and threatened to take Solomon to the army barracks in Oshodi if he could not provide the ring.
Wanogho summoned an accomplice, who arrived on a motorcycle, to assist in transporting Solomon. The pair pretended to take Solomon to the Army Cantonment but instead drove him to the Third Mainland Bridge, where they stole his iPhone 13 and money before abandoning him.
Further Investigations and Recovery
The stolen iPhone 13 was sold for N150,000 at Computer Village in Ikeja. A Nigerian Army fez cap and a fake Nigerian Army identity card were recovered from Wanogho during his arrest. The suspect has since been transferred to the Commissioner of Police’s Special Squad for further investigation.
Conclusion
Wanogho’s arrest brings an end to a crime that deceived an innocent victim under the false pretense of military authority. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
