Former Ebonyi State Commissioner Abia Onyike has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s leadership. Onyike, who previously served as Special Adviser on Media Relations under former Governor Sam Egwu and as Commissioner for Information during Martin Elechi’s administration, made the switch official in a ceremony held at Owutu Edda Ward, Edda Local Government Area, on Wednesday.

In his statement on Thursday, Onyike outlined his motivation, praising Governor Nwifuru’s governance approach and commitment to development and unity in Ebonyi State. He said, “My decision to join the APC is anchored on the need to support Governor Nwifuru’s efforts in restoring good governance and fostering an inclusive political landscape in Ebonyi.”

Highlighting the importance of local politics, Onyike added, “Politics is about serving our state’s developmental aspirations. I am aligning with other progressive forces to sustain and build upon the peaceful climate that has emerged under Governor Nwifuru.”

Owutu Edda Ward APC Chairman, Mr. Oko Ogbuagu, welcomed Onyike’s move, describing it as a boost to the party’s standing. “Onyike’s experience and popularity will certainly strengthen the APC and enhance its prospects in future elections,” he said.
